Description
Begin at the Arch of Charents, a viewpoint designed by Rafael Israelyan in 1957, offering views of Mount Ararat and featuring a poem line by Yeghishe Charents engraved on its entrance.
Next, visit Garni Temple, the only surviving pagan temple in Armenia and the former USSR, built in the first century and dedicated to Mithra, the Sun God. It was destroyed by an earthquake in 1679 and restored between 1968 and 1975.
Continue to Garni Gorge to see the Symphony of Stones—hexagonal basalt columns resembling a giant organ, part of the UNESCO World Heritage natural site.
Then explore the Geghard Monastery, a complex carved into rock and surrounded by 140 caves once inhabited by monks. Learn about the holy relic Geghard, linked to the Roman centurion Longianos, now kept in the Holy Mother See of Etchmiatsin.
